Construction In Motion at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital for TSI Corporations - (9/26/2013)

Germantown, MD -- For a number of years Holy Cross Health, Inc. has been working to provide a new Hospital to the rapidly growing and aging population of Northern Montgomery County in Maryland. In the next 20 years, Montgomery County will add as many seniors as it has added in its entire history.

After being awarded the contract with the hospital through general contractor Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, TSI is pleased to announce that the project is underway on the road to a completion in 2014.

Once completed, the 93-bed hospital will be the first in the country to operate on a community college campus with an educational partnership. As the first new hospital in Montgomery County in 35 years, the six-story, 237,000 square-foot hospital has some tremendous features to its building envelope skin. Once again all 3 divisions of TSI Corporations are involved in this healthcare project.

TSI/Exterior Walls, Inc. will be installing approximately 500 curtain wall units fabricated by Gardner Metal Systems in Acworth, GA. These curtain wall units were specifically constructed through a design-assist process involving the architect Smith Group along with Gardner Metal Systems, Whiting – Turner and TSI Corporations prior to construction of the hospital. TSI Exterior Wall Systems, Inc. will also be overseeing both MCS and TSI Architectural Metals for this project as well as installation of the curtain wall units.

TSI Architectural Metals, Inc. will take on the fabrication of 2 large canopies in the front of the building. It will be framed in steel and wrapped with composite panel with large glass pieces installed in between each truss of steel. TSI Architectural Metals and Mid-Atlantic Construction will be working together on these large canopies as they will be wrapped with composite panels.

Mid-Atlantic Construction Supply will handle the fabrication of the composite panels for the hospital. Approximately 1,316 composite panels were produced for this project covering 20,908 square feet. With unique colors, patterns, and bends to the panels; layout was of supreme importance for MCS in this job.

This project will be another big accomplishment in the TSI Corporation portfolio. Being able to work with Whiting-Turner Contracting Company on this project has furthered the two companies’ long standing relationship. “Watching this hospital go up and dealing with great people at WT has made this project a true winner,” said Jim Keller, TSI Exterior Walls, Inc. project manager.
